2013 Transcontinental Rum Line "Guadeloupe 2013" Rum

Notes

The wonderful Transcontinental Rum Line was developed by Maison du Whisky in Paris to highlight the complex world rum trade and the tradition European aging of rums for blending, which have now become in fashion to bottle. The result of their treasure hunt are unique little gems like this, a youngish molasses based rum from a traditional agricole rum island Guadeloupe. Agricole style rum dominates the market place from the French Caribbean, but since those rums can only be produced seasonally, the distilleries have always processed molasses based rums to make ends meet. Those are often just as exquisite as their fresh cane siblings, but we don't get to experience a lot of them since they're designed primarily for blending. This rum spent 3 years on the island (which by agricole standards is old enough to enjoy by all means) and another 2 years in continental Europe. The resulting rum is a gorgeous mix of the tropical aromatics and deep Guadeloupian soulful funk. A unique and singular expression we're not likely to see from any other producer of rum and a welcome addition to the growing scene of high quality rum.
