Launois "Dorine" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Review Date: 05/2023
For me, the Dorine demonstrates when Launois sets its sights on capturing the richness that Blanc de Blancs can reach while maintaining the wine's focus on fruit. This is at least partially due to the fact that while it comes with the Launois program's minimum 3 years aging on the lees, it also sees a full year of barrel aging. This Champagne meets the nose with a little toastiness and fresh vanilla bean that melts to creaminess. There's a lift with some fresh floral aromatics, then dried orchard fruits take over with peach, yellow apple, and golden cherry. The palate is very apple-oriented for me: there's a swirl of fresh apples, apple cider, and dried apple chips layered together. The bubbles are soft and inviting, and there's a full, round texture that gives the wine a sense of heft without losing the fresher fruity notes.

We just got a tiny allocation of this barrel-fermented Chardonnay from the Launois estate in the Sezanne! It won't last... (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
