The venerable Worthy Park Estate in St. Catherine is one of Jamaica's largest. The 10,000 acre estate is 40% under cane and planted to more than 20 distinct varietals. The Clarke family has been is stewards since 1918, but the estate dates back to 1670 when it was gifted by Oliver Cromwell to Lt. Francis Price for his service during the British capture of Jamaica from the Spanish in 1655. The mills here process more than 250,000 tons of cane per year, mostly harvest on the estate, but ceased rum production in 1962 due to over supply. In 2005 the Clarke family completed a new distillery on the estate dedicated to producing single estate pot distilled rums of incredible character. The Single Estate is special blend of 6 to 10 year old rums aged and blended at the estate from its finest stocks.
