Review Date: 04/2016Velvet tannins are allied with powerful fruit to create a rich wine with signs of the wood aging that smooth it further. It will be a generous wine that will keep its fine fruitiness for many years. (RV)

This is sourced from the strip of central vineyards on the Borie estate, to the west of the D2, south of the river between Léoville-Poyferré and Gruaud-Larose. The blend is 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, and the élevage was 12 months in barrels, using 66% new oak. Beautifully aromatic on the nose, perfumed with violets and limestone dust, expressive and pure, and impressive for the appellation. The palate is very true, honest, defined, fresh and pure, with a polished central core of black fruits and a fine grip of tannins. An impressive wine, cool, refined, savoury and medium-bodied, with a light grip. A strong finish, with a lightly grained tannic substance, and they sit so well within the fruit, which seems finely drawn and defined. A joy.

I love the coffee edge here that gives a gorgeous smoky quality to the palate - something that was also apparent in the Lalande Borie 2015, although with a lighter construction than in this rippling and concentrated wine. It has a fluidity and elegance that I thoroughly recommend. Extremely enjoyable and getting ready to drink. (JA)

Dark berries, iron and hints of rust with some iodine. Full-bodied, round and juicy with a solid backbone of tannins and focus. This second wine of Ducru-Beaucaillou. Polished.
