Reviewed February 2018The 2015 Branaire Ducru is a gorgeous, totally sexy wine. Rose petal, lavender, mint, sweet red berry and gently spiced notes give the wine much of its gracious, lilting personality. Precise and nuanced to the core, the 2015 Branaire is all class. It's easy to overlook Brainaire in the context of Saint-Julien, where most of the other important wines are much more powerful. Branaire always speaks with a hushed, discreet voice. Readers who appreciate finesse will find much to admire here. The 2015 is a wine of pure and total sensual pleasure. In 2015, the blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, aged for 18 months in French oak, 60% new. Don't miss it. Tasted two times. (AG)

This family-owned estate has produced a structured and dark wine with great concentration balanced by acidity and pure, creamy fruit. It is a wine with a good future. The aftertaste leaves juicy acidity and firm tannins. (RV)

This pumps lush fig, boysenberry and blackberry confiture notes along, pushed by a rather polished but ample structure. Lots of anise and violet details cascade in on the finish, giving this extra aromatic dimension. *Top 100 Wines of 2018, No. 33* (JM)

Here I find a rather fragrant and perfumed nose, showing evolved scents of sandalwood draped over macerated red-berry fruits. The palate is fresh, peppery, with plenty of roasted praline notes ready to smother the fruit at present. It has a charming texture, quite admirable for the vintage, finely textured and a touch glossy in its richness, with nicely pointed fruits swirling within it. Overall, this is rather good.

The 2015 Branaire Ducru is a textbook perfect example of a magnificent Saint-Julien. The ripe fruit nose and palate profile is full of cassis, plums, pencil lead and cola. The fruit is framed by its perfectly ripe tannins. It is a very pleasant experience to drink this now, but make no mistake, this wine will easily last another 20 years or more. So, a couple of cases in the cellars, and some bottles on the wine fridge are in order...
Notes
93 points Neal Martin for Vinous: "The 2015 Branaire-Ducru has a refined bouquet with cranberry, redcurrant and a hint of tomato vine. This is understated compared to its peers but gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and nuanced, with fine tannins. Just the right amount of dryness matched with sapidity urges you back on the finish. The 2015 is a lovely Saint-Julien. " (2/2025)
