Notes of kirsch, black cherry and plenty of floral influence serve as an elegant introduction to the dense, serious and powerful middle weight flavors that again enjoy an abundance of sappy dry extract. That is a good thing because this robust and overtly powerful effort is quite firmly structured, indeed to the point that I would recommend not touching a bottle for at least 7 to 8 years. I would add that this is perhaps less Charmes like in 2015 than in other vintages as it is built-to-age and is very much going to need it. Highly recommended. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes includes 50% whole cluster and 40% new oak. The stem addition makes a little difference here, with more damp undergrowth, moss-like scents filtering through the dark cherry and wild strawberry fruit. This is a little more introspective than the two premier cru Vosne-Romanées. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin. I appreciate the energy and tension here, the veins of blood orange and fresh apricot lending charm and a sense of femininity on the finish. (NM)

(50% vendange entier): Good dark red. Ripe, sappy aromas of black cherry, licorice, herbs and flowers. Concentrated and firmly structured, with its black fruit, licorice and violet flavors communicating an impression of power. Finishes broad and classically dry, with youthfully tough tooth-dusting tannins that will need time to harmonize with the wine's fruit. Hints of herbs and flowers give lift to the back end. Mugneret described his Chambolle Charmes as "one of our most difficult parcels," explaining that the vines are strong and very productive and need to be carefully regulated. "Our vines produce a wine that's something like the Brûlées, which is closed and not too much fun when it's young, showing good tension but less generosity." This wine may yet merit an even higher score. (ST) 91+
