2015 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Clos des Porrets St-Georges"

While writing my profile on Domaine Gouges last year, I finally came to realize just how much I love the Clos des Porrets bottling here, and the 2015 is destined to be one of the reference point vintages of this fine cru in the years to come. This and the remainder of the cellar was still in cask and had not yet been racked. The bouquet on the 2015 Clos des Porrets is utterly superb, wafting from the glass in a classy blend of red and black cherries, plums, bitter chocolate, a great, complex base of soil tones and a touch of currant leaf in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure on the attack, with a rock solid core of fruit, laser-like focus and a very, very long, fine-grained and vibrant finish. This will be a stunningly elegant and sappy example of Clos des Porrets at its apogee and should prove to be a very, very long-lived wine.
