The 2012 Chardonnay Evenstad Reserve was picked October 10-18: a narrow picking window according to winemaker Erik Kramer. It is 100% whole-cluster fruit and matured in 25% new wood and less lees-stirring than in recent vintages. There is plentiful richness on the nose with notes of clear honey, white peach and subtle marzipan scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a very harmonious texture, a gentle spicy note on the entry, with dried lemon peel and lemongrass enlivening the finish while retaining admirable focus. Excellent. A fresh and vibrant white, polished in texture and juicy, with star fruit, grapefruit and peach flavors that zip against lively acidity through a spicy, complete and harmonious finish. Shows impressive presence and length. Drink now through 2020. (HS)

This reserve is actually one of the winery's less expensive Chardonnays. It's full, fruity and forward, with a lush mix of pineapple, peaches and tropical fruits, buttressed with juicy acids and highlights of toasted nuts. Thoroughly delicious, and ready for immediate enjoyment. (PG)
