The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets come from 0.5-hectare of vines replanted in the late 1990s, augmented by an acquisition by Guillaume d'Angerville in 2013 of vines adjacent to that original parcel. This now represents around one-third of the blend. The bouquet leans more towards red fruit with damp undergrowth/woodland aromas, a hint of iodine with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with a smooth and supple entry. This is a more sensual Caillerets compared to the 2014, caressing the mouth, with fine delineation towards the white pepper-tinged finish. This constitutes one of the domaine's outstanding offerings in 2015 - sophisticated and sensual.(NM)

Vinous

Bright medium ruby. Less open and expressive on the nose than the Frémiet, with ripe but restrained black fruit flavors accented by cocoa powder and high-pitched spices. Very rich, supple and deep; very ripe but with terrific penetrating energy and inner-mouth tension giving the wine an unlikely delicacy. ("The 2005s never had the sharpness of acidity of the 2015s," noted Guillaume d'Angerville, who in 2013 purchased an additional block of very old vines next to the estate's original holding, which was replanted in the 1990s.)(ST)

A beautifully nuanced nose reflects notes of both red and dark raspberries along with anise, cinnamon and lilac. The middle weight flavors are finer and more mineral-driven if somewhat less concentrated while delivering outstanding length on the stylish and classy finale. Terrific.

A bouquet of plum, raspberry, chalky soil and spice framed by oak vanillin precedes a powerful wine with dimension and amplitude on the palate, with a long, intense finish. The domaine's parcel here was replanted in the mid 1990s, and the vines seem to be beginning to come into their own.Drinking Window 2025 - 2050.(WK)
