Aromas of fresh red berries, Mediterranean herbs and a bit of peppery spice show nice intensity on the nose. While light in body and soft in tannins, the palate offers a great sense of vibrancy and persistence in its brisk red-currant and broader red-cherry flavors that end on a lingering cranberry skin note. *Best Buy* (AP)

There is nothing musty or old-fashioned about this straightforward red, with fresh, "modern" styling in its rich, dark fruit and sweet tannins. Made entirely of the Montepulciano grape from the region of Abruzzo, this will work well with a pizza/pasta or just a great wine to serve to the "family" on Sunday night. Plays well with food -- especially tricky tomato sauce. Nice lift and acidity, but with the ripe fruit flavors of Abruzzo, which is located on the "calf" of the boot of Italy.

A delicious Italian stunner, the Pasetti Montepulciano D'Abruzzo is the a charming red to make any meal special. No matter your menu or guest list, Montepulciano is a sophisticated yet crowd-pleasing option at a price that won't bust your budget. Pasetti's vineyards lie in the heart of Italy's Abruzzo, an area with a favorable climate, varied terrain and chalky soil, ideal conditions to create complex wine. Plus their vines are inside a national park! The perfect interesting but easygoing weeknight red, Pasetti is a minerally, elegant choice to impress at your next party. Buon Appetito!

Notes

Pasetti's vineyards lie in the heart of Italy's Abruzzo, between the Tirino and Pescara valleys at the foot of Gran Sasso and Maiella. The location's favorable climate, varied terrain and clay chalk and skeleton-rich rocky subsoils result in some of the best wines coming out of Italy today. Made by husband-and-wife team Franco and Mimma from vineyards at 550 meters above sea level, their Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is aromatic, balanced, and elegant. The perfect weeknight red.
