2013 Greer Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
98
Jeb Dunnuck
Review Date: 01/2021Purchased at the great Napa restaurant Press, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon showed brilliantly. A powerful, locked-and-loaded 2013 that’s just about as good as anything out there, it reveals a deep purple color as well as a blockbuster nose of blackcurrants, scorched earth, violets, candied flowers, and chocolate. With building minerality on the palate, full-bodied richness, a monster of a mid-palate, and a great finish, this is another insanely good 2013 that will take another 4-5 years of bottle age and will evolve for 30-40 years. 98+

Notes
A great location in the heart of Napa Valley with a host of top-flight neighbors—Rubicon, Scarecrow, and Phelps, to name just a few, Greer is situated for greatness. But this small family winery doesn't rely solely upon location; it has enlisted well-regarded winemaker Aaron Pott (formerly of Quintessa) to make the wine. Aaron worked so well that Greer has become a hard wine to purchase, selling out their small production every vintage soon after release via mailing list alone. This 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is a hidden gem.
