Int'l Wine Review

Review Date: 12/2017

The 2014 Insignia is a total knockout. It begins with intense aromas of crème de cassis, coffee grounds and, pencil shavings and a touch of bell pepper. Layered and downright intoxicating, the wine reveals beautiful dark cherry, crème de cassis mocha flavors which lead into the monumental finish. The dark fruits are beautifully complimented by lovely underlying acidity making this powerful wine nearly impossible to resist right now. Try your best to give this absolutely sensational effort another year in the bottle. (OB)

James Suckling

The blackberry, dark-chocolate and walnut aromas are persuasive. Full body, a dense and fruity center palate and beautiful depth and intensity. The tannin texture is exceptional. Great wine.

The Wine Independent

Review Date: 10/2017
Composed of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc coming from six vineyards and reared for 24 months in 100% new French oak, the 2014 Insignia Proprietary Red Wine has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of crushed blackberries and fresh blackcurrants with touches of cigar box, sandalwood, dried lavender, beef drippings and mocha plus a waft of wild thyme. Medium to full-bodied and incredibly elegant and fine in the mouth, the lively fruit is well structured by grainy tannins and seamless acid, finishing long and earthy. (LPB, Wine Advocate) 97+

Vinous

Review Date: 01/2025
The 2014 Insignia is in the zone today. Dark and expansive, it is a glorious wine. The 2014 shows the richer style of the year, along with the first signs of aromatic maturity. Espresso, leather, blueberry jam, cedar and tobacco all take shape in the glass. It's an ideal wine for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Today I find it just as compelling as always. (AG)

Notes

96 points Robert Parker for Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Insignia is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and the rest Malbec and Cabernet Franc (no Merlot whatsoever). Production was slightly higher at 14,500 cases. This wine has an inky bluish purple color, a big, sweet kiss of crème de cassis, blackberry, blueberry, and hints of graphite and charcoal. It is floral, full-bodied, with tremendous opulence and richness. It is more approachable than the more structured and muscular 2013, but its is certainly no wimpy wine, given its level of extract and richness. It is another beauty, with the oak well-disguised by the extravagant fruit extract. Drink it over the next 30+ years." (10/2016)
