The 2014 Tronquoy-Lalande is medium to deep garnet in color. Intense notes of Morello cherries, creme de cassis, and plum preserves spill from the glass, plus touches of mint tea, iron ore, and dried roses. The medium-bodied palate is taut with muscular black fruits and fantastic tension, framed by firm, grainy tannins, finishing long and fragrant. Simply beautiful! (LPB)

Another big, dark St.-Estèphe, but in spite of the rich body and some perceptible alcohol, there is also a cool, minty note. Slightly sweet finish in spite of all the tannins. Spice comes through at the end.

Deep ruby in colour, very much holding its intensity at 8 years old. This is classic St-Estèphe, there is punch and depth to the black fruits, acidities are fresher than you would find in neighbour appellations such as Pauillac, with everything well held together, cassis, blackberry, lashings of black pepper and cocoa bean spice, open and ready to drink but still with structure and life ahead. Enjoyable, classic, a little old school but thoroughly charming with appellation character.

The 2014 Tronquoy-Lalande has a more elegant, refined bouquet compared to its peers, a mixture of red and black fruit, cedar, iodine and violets, perhaps picked a little later? The palate is medium-bodied with a ferrous opening, and the tannins are a bit drier than I would have liked, though the overly spicy and persistent finish is complex. It will be intriguing to see how this ages further in bottle. This is a very positive showing for one of the most under-rated estates in Saint-Estèphe. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting. (NM) 92+

Now at its ten-year mark, the 2014 vintage from the northern Médoc is one that continues to amaze, and there's no one that succeeded with such panache as the team at Montrose. The Grand Vin is easily among the shortlist for wine of the vintage, but they also crafted a masterful Tronquoy-Lalande that speaks brilliantly to their successes in the year. Deeply fruited and layered with black and red fruit flavors, a hint of savoriness that's developed in time, and a fine texture, there's so much going on in this impressive bottling. At a decade on, this kind of price and caliber is rare, even for Bordeaux. Grab a case or two and enjoy this perfectly aged gem while your other Grand Vins are quietly resting - it's a sweet spot wine with few peers.

An altogether lovely wine! The blend is slightly more Merlot dominate in this vintage, which adds to the silky texture and the lovely black-fruit perfume. Although this wine is still on the young side for drinking, it has all the components in place, and will undoubtedly prove the quality of this Chateau with a little extra time in the cellar.

You need to dig deep into this deep and creamy wine to find the St-Estephe firmness buried underneath the plush blackberry and rich cherry fruit. Although opulent enough to enjoy tonight the serious structure holding this together will reward the patient collector.
