Review Date: 01/2017Dark ruby-red. Complex nose melds black cherry, licorice, violet, cocoa powder and spices, along with a faint leathery nuance. Very ripe but not at all roasted, conveying an impression of purity to its fruit-driven flavors of black cherry and blackberry. Lovely acidity draws out the long, positively tart finish. This wine smells like a Volnay, but that's hardly surprising as it's made by a producer in Volnay from vines in Les Combes Dessus, on Pommard's border with Volnay. (ST)

A ripe and dense nose is composed primarily by notes of plum, violet and warm earth nuances. As is typically the case there is more size, weight and power to the equally dense medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract, all wrapped in a firmly structured but well-balanced finish. Patience required.

The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Combes Dessus has a ripe blackberry, cola and spice-tinged bouquet that is actually quite Volnay in style thanks to its precocity. The palate is well balanced with succulent ripe tannin, plenty of black cherry and raspberry fruit, almost confit in style with fine balance towards the spicy finish that displays a touch of sinew. It should drink well over several years.
