This is lovely, the aromas and flavors run long into the finish with notes of light butter biscuits, subtle cooked apples and peaches. It's full yet balanced and long. Lovely texture. Lots of flavor and polished textured bubbles. The base in the current release is 2016 vintage. 50% chardonnay, 35% pinot noir and 15% pinot meunier. Disgorged in December 2022.

Fragrant on the nose, showing notes of chalk, smoke and toast. This brightly buoyant Champagne features flavors of pear, black cherry, tangerine peel, spun honey and white blossoms, with a delicate but persistent perlage. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. (AN)

The non-vintage Brut bottling of “La Cuvée” from Laurent-Perrier is made from a composition of at least fifty percent chardonnay, thirty to thirty-five percent pinot noir and the balance pinot meunier. The bottling includes at least fifteen percent reserve wines and is given four years aging sur latte prior to disgorgement. The wine is bright and complex on the nose, wafting from the glass in a mix of apple, lemon, bread dough, chalky minerality, raw almond and a gently floral topnote. On the palate the wine is bright, focused and full-bodied, with a fine core of fruit, lovely soil inflection, elegant mousse and a long, zesty and well balanced finish. Fine juice that will age well and will be even a bit more complex with three to five years in the cellar.

Evoking aromas of menthol, white fruits, lemon oil and warm biscuits, the NV Brut La Cuvée possesses a medium to full-bodied, round and supple palate with good depth at the core and a charming, fresh, ethereal finish. For this release, the percentage of Chardonnay in this cuvée has been slightly increased, making it a blend of 52% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 13% Pinot Meunier. Based on the 2018 vintage, complemented with 2016 and 2015, it was disgorged with a dosage of nine grams per liter. (YC)

Several years ago, Laurent Perrier was fortunate enough to acquire a small Champagne group that owned vineyards and had some very good contracts in the Côtes de Blancs. It took more than five years for the first batch that includes fruit from these marvelous sites to be released, and the wines are a revelation- truly one of the best non-vintages on the market from a grande marque. They have increased the proportion of chardonnay in the blend to 55% (the balance is 30% pinot noir and 15% meunier), and now only use the first and most delicate portion of the grape pressing, while increasing the aging minimum to over four years on the lees. The result is a Champagne with a near blanc de blancs character, singing with Puligny Montrachet-like lime and vibrant chalk. If you like your champagne fresh, clean and light but still with interest and depth, this is one not to miss!

Laurent Perrier La Cuvee is a timeless Champagne that delivers wonderful flavors thru and thru. Crisp green apple, D ’Anjou pear, baked into a buttery tart garnished with candied ginger bits. There is a charming texture and flintiness that makes this a unique Champagne that is consistent and genuine.

To draw attention to the fact that they have greatly improved the already amazing quality of their standard Brut bottling Laurent Perrier has renamed it "La Cuvee". The bright "Wedding cake" aromas and flavors remain but the "La Cuvee" is toastier and has a much broader palate impression and a more layered texture. There is now a rich array of stone fruit flavors that add complexity which combined with the extra weight and length make this a more profound wine and one of the great values in Champagne. Delicious and priced for every day enjoyment.

Notes

This replacement for the Laurent-Perrier Brut was created after the house acquired new vineyards and contracts in the Côtes de Blancs, allowing for a bump up in the composition favoring Chardonnay, and an extra year of aging on the lees. This is a big step up from the regular Brut! (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)
