This is a gorgeously light coastal offering, a subdued expression of the variety that unravels its layers slowly and methodically. Red cherry, lavender and blueberry are revealed on the palate as perfumed shocks of rose and salty air permeate the nose. Vibrantly crisp, it has a slight grip to the velvety texture. (VB)

Aromas of blueberry and ash with some spice. Medium to full body, juicy fruit, light tannins and a lightly candied fruit finish.

This iteration of Flowers’ multi-vineyard blend from western Sonoma is a bit lush compared to some other vintages, perhaps due to the warmth of the 2014 growing season, yet it’s stitched together by brisk coastal acidity and the tannins of fruit grown on sandy ridgetops. Its initial dark cherry flavor gains levity in the finish, heading toward spicy suggestions of apple skin and pomegranate, drawing a line of red fruit that’s delicious and immediate, ample but not heavy.

There's plenty to chew on in this youngster, which is rustic, pleasantly earthy and tannic, making for a slow development in the glass. Promises healthy tannins to come. (JL)

Open aromatics of red berries, dried herbs, orange zest and slate are shown in this elegant Pinot Noir from Flowers. This wine is medium in body, has bright acidity, spectacular balance and true Sonoma Coast minerality. Give this wine a little air, and you'll be very content with this delicious Pinot!
The Flowers Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is refined and light bodied, with vibrant acidity. Intriguing aromas of candied plum and violet are underpinned by earthy forest floor and white and black pepper notes. The fruit sourced for this wine comes from the Fort Ross-Seaview area, and there is a coastal, slightly briny minerality that reflects the unique nature of the terroir, reflected in its long finish. This Pinot is a lovely example of when Burgundian wine making traditions meet New World fruit and terroir. Traditional basket presses are used and only native yeasts aid in the fermentation, which adds complexity and elegance to this domestic beauty.

Made from Dijon clones planted in the Sonoma Coast appellation, this is showing great power and concentration, and lifted aromas of red fruit and baking spice with wild herb notes. It’s both powerful and precise, which makes for a wine that you can enjoy tonight, but will also blossom as it ages.

Notes

Honestly there is not much that we can say about Flowers Vineyards & Winery that even a wine neophyte does not already know. Many times we can use this platform to launch the new, the unheard of or the up-and-coming, but this time we are here to emphasize just how good these wines truly are and how they've continued to get better and more refined over time. There are a lot of people out there, including our staff, that have a preconception of what these wines are -- big, bombastic, full-bore wines that are pushed to one side of the polar scale, but at this point that couldn't be further from the truth. From rosé to Pinot Noir to Chardonnay to their top-end single vineyard efforts, these wines are all about balance, freshness and fruit and have exceptional purity.
