Dettori Renosu Rosso Romangia (Cannonau)
VN
Vinous
Review Date: 01/2016Bright red. Aromatic nose combines red cherry, strawberry and flowers, plus a whiff of volatile acidity that adds lift. Juicy and intense on the palate, showing a hint of residual sugar--as well as a suggestion of refermentation--to the expansive flavors of red cherry, flowers and spices. This energetic, youthful, uncomplicated wine will match perfectly with burgers and simple tomato-based pasta dishes.

Notes
The Renosu Rosso is a soulful and idiosyncratic "vins de terroir" from Alessandro Dettori, a pioneer of natural winemaking in northern Sardinia. Technically a non-vintage blend (though often based on a specific recent harvest), it is a traditional field blend of Cannonau, Monica, and Pascale grown on the limestone and wind-swept "sandy" (Renosu) soils of the Badde Nigolosu cru. The nose is a wild and evocative "Mediterranean explosion," offering intense aromas of ripe plums, marasca cherries, and blackberry jam layered with distinctive scents of dried myrtle, rosemary, wild thyme, and licorice. On the palate, it is medium-to-full bodied and incredibly velvety, often characterized by a hint of natural residual sugar that amplifies its sweet fruit core. This richness is perfectly balanced by a striking saline sapidity and soft, integrated tannins. The finish is long, warm, and persistent, marked by balsamic notes and a touch of dark chocolate. A "sincere" and unmanipulated wine—fermented with indigenous yeasts in cement and bottled without fining or filtration—that captures the rugged, sun-drenched beauty of the Romangia coast.
