The plum and blueberry character and hints of cocoa are really impressive. Medium to full body and firm and silky tannins. Integrated and so fine. A beautiful thing. Drink now or hold. Second wine of Vieux Château Certan.

Wine Spectator

Lovely, with a stream of raspberry confiture flowing through, while light mint, star anise and black tea notes weave in and out. The long and refined finish has a light mineral accent, while the fruit sails on. This is quietly one of the best second wines in Bordeaux. Best from 2018 through 2026. (JM, Web-2017)

This is the first time we have carried this beauty--the second wine of Vieux Chateau Certan, one of the best properties in all of Bordeaux. We tasted it on our first day in Bordeaux on our 2016 buying trip. We bought all that was available--only 180 bottles. Pure framboise on the nose and palate. Lush, sweet, and sexy. Buy it and enjoy now or ten years from now.

Notes

This second wine of Vieux Chateau Certan is so good it is sinful. Made by Alexander Thienpont, of whom Robert Parker has said, in reviewing a previous vintage, "Alexander Thienpont continues to turn out brilliant wines from this property situated on the high plateau of Pomerol." Fresh raspberries on the nose and on the palate with some toasty oak undertones. We drank it, as we could not spit it out. This is a must buy. We have never carried this label and very little is made in each vintage. (Clyde Beffa Jr., K&L)
