This shows jaw-dropping purity, with intensely sweet but amazingly graceful notes of dried persimmon, candied ginger, green melon, white tea, crème fraîche, mineral and Key lime custard that ripple through the nearly endless finish. An amazing display of elegance and precision. *Collectible* (JM)

Vivid gold. Wildly complex scents of yellow peach, nectarine, orange marmalade and candied flowers, with complicating honey and mineral qualities. Lush but penetrating citrus and pit fruit flavors boast remarkable depth and show unlikely elegance, with zesty citrus notes adding lift and clarity to the dense fruit. Nervy lime and pear notes resonate on the ridiculously long finish, which eventually leaves traces of lime zest, singed orange and honey behind. Offers an uncanny blend of richness and vivacity; this will have no problem outliving anybody reading this review but it's also pretty remarkable to drink now. (JR)

Comprising a virtually berry-by-berry selection of perfectly botrytized fruit from each of the domaine’s three sites, the Huet 2005 Vouvray Cuvee Constance will be virtually ageless. Quince jelly, marzipan, lemon candy, heliotrope, and honey levitate from the glass, in anticipation of the startling elegance, lift, and lightness of touch that this elixir exhibits on the palate, for all of its intensely honeyed richness. Fresh grapefruit and lemon leaven the wine and balance its 137 grams residual sugar, and the finish is astonishingly fresh and juicy, yet displays confectionary (marzipan, vanilla creme) and patisserie (buttered pastry with quince filling) sides as well. Anyone hoping to net and pin down in words this splendid butterfly of a wine will fail, but if you do pin down a bottle, let it soar across the next several decades. (DS)

I don’t come across too many bottles of Cuvée Constance these days—and when I do, it’s always something special. The 2005 vintage is absolutely explosive, bursting with honeyed apricots, roasted peaches, and a smoky minerality that adds incredible depth. The acidity keeps all that layered sweetness lifted and vibrant, and the finish lingers on the palate for minutes. This is sublime wine—a true treat at any time, but now, with nearly 20 years of bottle age, it’s entering its second phase of evolution. The wine is just beginning to show the complexity that only time can bring, and I expect it will continue to evolve beautifully for at least another 20 years.

Domaine Huet was founded in 1928 and began making this stunner of a dessert wine 60 years later in 1989. The Domaine consists of 3 vineyard sites located on the Première Côte or "first slope" within the famed Vouvray region of the Loire Valley where Chenin Blanc thrives. With access to exceptional fruit, Domaine Huet is able to showcase Chenin Blanc's full range from a dry mineral driven Vouvray to this rich, sweet cuvee. We were extremely lucky to have the chance to try the 2005 Cuvee Constance, and I was blown away by its rich complexity. I find it to be beautifully honeyed on the nose with notes of quince and candied orange all balanced with a hint of minerality. This one is really special.
