Bright ruby. Mineral-accented red fruit liqueur scents are complemented by suggestions of white pepper and candied flowers. Fleshy, seamless and gently sweet on the palate, offering juicy cherry and raspberry flavors underscored by a smoky mineral quality. Shows excellent clarity and spicy lift on the finish, which is given shape by smooth, harmonious tannins. The Grenache component is really showing itself right now. (JR)

Fresh-pressed boysenberry and olallie-berry aromas are lifted by tons of inviting violet florality, garrigue-like potpourri and oak forest underbrush on the nose of this blend of 44% Grenache, 36% Syrah, 12% Counoise and 8% Mourvèdre. Mulberry and black-plum flavors are fruit-forward, enhanced by toasted vanilla bean. A lavender lift carries deep into the finish. (MK)

Tasted out of bottle, the 2014 Cote de Tablas (44% Grenache, 36% Syrah, 12% Counoise and the rest Mourvedre) reveals a vibrant ruby/purple color as well as notes of kirsch, blackberries, crushed flowers and sappy herbs. Medium-bodied, layered and with outstanding purity, this is a no-brainer purchase that can be drunk today with plenty of pleasure, or cellared for 7-8 years. (JD)

This emphasizes the cheery red fruit of grenache that’s picked well before it accumulates a wallop of alcohol; the blend also includes syrah, counoise and mourvedre from Tablas Creek’s organic, largely dry-farmed estate in the hills of western Paso. It’s lithe and juicy, with some herbal grip at the edges. With a slight chill, it will disappear at summer cookouts. (1,600 cases)
