2014 Domaine Viticole "Malmont" Côtes du Rhône Villages Séguret
90
Wine Spectator
Review Date: 10/2016Well-built, with a juicy core of raspberry and plum coulis flavors, stitched with fresh acidity and carrying through a finish edged with violet, lavender and light chalk details. Should knit nicely with modest cellaring. A new project from Nicolas Haeni, formerly of Domaine de Cabasse. Grenache and Syrah. Best from 2017 through 2020. (JM)

Notes
Malmont is a single-vineyard labor of love. Deeply terraced and steep, with plentiful rocky soil, the Malmont vineyard is no breeze to cultivate--the vineyard's name means "bad mountain." But it produces deeply colored and structured wines that have made the effort worth it for vigneron Nicolas Haeni, who was able to scrape together enough money to buy just the Séguret vineyard after his family decided to sell their property in 2012, and made that the focus of his new project, "Malmont." His bottling from Séguret is a Grenache and Syrah blend.
