This is a fruit-forward style with loads of ripe and juicy fruit plus plenty of jammy undertone. Yet it remains fresh and resilient. Full and soft textured.

The winery's top of the top, this is a viscous, concentrated expression of the grape, blended with 5% Merlot, the fruit from the producer's estate Sage Vineyard on Mount Veeder. Chocolate, blackberry, sage and meaty grips of black pepper and anise compete for attention amid all the ripeness and intensity, finishing with surprising softness. (VB)

Beautifully crafted, offering a powerful yet elegant and refined mix of zesty, extracted blackberry, black licorice, spice, cedar, mineral and mocha notes, ending with a long, lingering aftertaste that keeps repeating the fruit themes. (JL)

Notes

Darioush Winery is a California wine producer located off the Silverado Trail in Napa Valley, and was established in 1997 by Darioush Khaledi. It is known as a "destination winery" in Napa for its dramatic Persian architecture, and produces a range of wines that repeatedly receive high scores in the press. Darioush Khaledi was born and raised in Iran, where his father made wine as a hobby. He immigrated to the United States in the 1970s, and founded a successful grocery store chain called KV Mart. On his 20th wedding anniversary, he visited Napa Valley with his wife, where they tried California wines for the first time, and decided to buy land and start a winery. The rich style of Darioush's wines appeals to many, including the likes of the American wine critic, Robert Parker, who has given the wines scores in the high 90s.
