ArteNOM "Seleccion 1579" Blanco Tequila (750ml)

Review Date: 08/2020

NOM 1579 is widely hailed as one of the best Tequila distilleries in Mexico. ArteNOM has been kind enough to source a special batch from them to share with the world and I for one, am thrilled they did! The nose is soft with hints of lime, fresh pineapple, black pepper and green herbs all wrapped up in a tangy cream. Oh man does the palate come through after with a huge savory herbaceous punch right up front that rounds into sweet vanilla cream notes. Minerality completely defines the finish with a nice wet stone pull that finishes clean and lean. The quality of the tequila that ArteNOM sources at this price range is amazing, this is definitely one of the best Blanco's on the shelf!

Staff Reviews

The sweetness derived from the higher altitude this agave is grown at really shines through and makes this an amazingly easy sipping tequila. The incredibly smooth texture accentuated with great fruit flavor and slight spice makes this blanco one to treasure. A wonderful expression of how high-end tequila could taste from an respected, established, individual producer.

Notes

Introducing the newest addition to Jake Lustig's ArteNOM portfolio, the deliciously fruit-forward blanco expression from NOM 1579. The mountain town of Jesús-María (elev. 6,079’) is Tequila’s highest altitude agave region, and the El Pandillo Distillery is arguably one of the most forward-thinking and sustainable distilleries in the business. There, Felipe Camarena masterfully crafts this bright, aromatic tequila from stressed hillside agave plants, slowly roasted in brick ovens and macerated intact with fiber for a pronounced agave flavor. It's an instant classic. Scored 94 points by the Beverage Testing Institute: "Clear color. Rustic aromas of dried grasses, pumpkin, rice cake, sage, and underripe mango with a silky, bright, dryish light body and a smooth, medium-length black pepper, marzipan, and candied lime peel finish. An earthy, dry tequila that will shine in autumnal cocktails. *Gold Medal, Exceptional* " (04/2019)
