The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has a dense opaque purple color, a kiss of blackberry and cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel with ripe tannin and a long finish. It is very Caymus in its immediate accessibility, but has plenty of staying power and depth. This is lush, full, intense and pure. (RP)

The 2014 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon follows up the past two highly impressive releases from this estate. Coming from another hot vintage, this wine is a blend of eight Napa sub-appellations and displays the rich fruit flavors that Caymus has been known for. This plush and silky Cabernet opens with aromatics of black cherry, tar, clove and crème de cassis. This leads to ripe flavors of blueberry compote, dark currants, anise, black olive, mocha and pipe tobacco which cascade on the palate. The wine has an exceedingly plush texture and gorgeous mouthfeel as there is a wonderful array of dark fruit flavors at play. This has some very good cellaring potential and will drink beautifully for the next twenty years. (OB)

Expressive, frankly ripe and direct, with a caressing feel to its mix of kirsch, boysenberry and vanilla notes. Melted licorice, iris and menthol hints all flash through the finish. For the fruit-loving crowd and ready to go. (JM)

The little brother to Caymus' famed "Special Selection" Cabernet Sauvignon, the winery's Napa Valley release has also been a consistent 90+ point wine in Wine Spectator for the past 10 years. It's also been a 90-and-better hit lately with Robert Parker, who recently reaffirmed his praise for the winery in Wine Advocate: "I am old enough to remember Chuck Wagner and his father, who I first met at Caymus in the late seventies. This is clearly one of Napa Valley’s iconic wineries, as well as one that, amazingly, never went through a bad patch. Obviously, no matter which generation is in the driver’s seat (or should I say tractor’s seat), Caymus Vineyard knows how to deliver flavor and deliciousness. They appear to be immune to some of winedom’s less than intelligent trends and fads that we see from time to time..." (10/2014)
