2013 Moulin de la Gardette "Cuvée Ventabren" Gigondas (Library Release)
91
Vinous
Review Date: 04/2016Ruby-red. Highly perfumed aromas of cherry, potpourri and smoky minerals are complemented by a suggestion of peppery spices. Shows very good clarity and lift on the palate, offering bitter cherry, boysenberry and lavender pastille flavors that gain sweetness and weight with air. At once rich and lithe, with velvety tannins coming in late and adding grip to the long, floral-tinged finish. (JR)

The same blend as the 2014, the 2013 Gigondas Ventabren comes from the oldest vines on the estate and is 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Cinsault; it was fermented with no destemming and aged all in ancient foudres. It has outstanding and classic Gigondas notes of dried Provencal herbs (thyme, rosemary), white pepper, licorice and kirsch. These flow to a medium-bodied red that has impeccable balance, fine tannin and a clean, focused finish. Enjoy this distinctly Provencal 2013 anytime over the coming decade. (JD)

Email AndrewExcellent wine from the Gigondas region, the wine exhibits complex layers of red fruit, herbs, spices and acid. Bright red fruit and acid keeps the wine lifted and long and the herb notes make this an wonderful wine to pair with dishes like lamb or baked chicken. Perfect for dinner during the warmer months when some red wines may be too big, this wine plays very well with food and long evenings.
