Simply said, I have never tasted a better young vintage of Clos des Porrets from the Gouges family. The 2009 is a stunning bottle in the making, as it soars from the glass in a beautiful blaze of sappy red and black cherries, raw cocoa, great minerality, incipient notes of gamebirds, vinesmoke, coffee, floral tones and a topnote of Nuits nutskins. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and very pure, with a bottomless, sappy core of fruit, great transparency, fine-grained tannins and simply stunning length and grip on the perfectly balanced and very nuanced finish. This is a great, great young vintage of Clos des Porrets!

An attractively complex nose of fresh red and black raspberry, plum and pungent earth introduces rich, round and fleshy medium weight plus flavors that possess excellent density but also relatively fine supporting tannins that add shape to the strikingly long finish. While not a wine of finesse, this is certainly finer than it usually is because while the finish is robust, it's not rustic. *Outstanding*

The 2009 Nuits-St-Georges Clos des Porrets St-Georges comes across as silky, perfumed and quite pretty in this vintage. There is an early approachability to the wine that makes it an excellent choice for drinking over the near and mid-term. Gregoire Gouges told me he didn’t think the wine would shut down in bottle as that would already be obvious already if it was happening. He added that the 2005 closed down right after bottling. Crushed flowers, licorice and spices are some of the notes that linger on the finish. (AG)

Very ripe but fresh aromas of red fruits, menthol, coffee and licorice. Silky on entry, then solid in the middle and stuffed with redcurrant, black raspberry and dark chocolate flavors complicated by leather and spices. This seriously structured, complex 2009 shows little in the way of easy sweetness today and will need a good five or six years of aging. Finishes with broad tannins and excellent persistence. (ST)
