Jancis Robinson
Review Date: 07/20109 g/l RS, 30 hl/ha. Old gold colour, rich, ripe and thick in the mouth. Concentrated lemon sherbet, sheet metal, Indian spices, honey, floral – incredibly ornate and massive. (RH) 17.5/20

Like the Riesling, the apricot-colored 2007 Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl is an austere wine on both nose and palate. The bouquet of my sample (which was provided by a German retailer) is still fresh and vital, but reveals some oxidative old-style Rioja flavors along with matured aromas of oranges, lemons, black bread, mushrooms and dried apricots. Quite dry but intense on the palate and provided with a pronounced, not very well integrated acidity, this full-bodied 15% alcohol wine is surely no crowd-pleaser in its austerity, but a complex and interesting Pinot Gris with food. Probably I did not have the best bottle. (SR)
