Look for a bold, vegetal aroma marked by bell and jalapeño pepper. The palate is fairly spicy up front, with black pepper and jalapeño sparks against a vegetal core. The mineral-laced finish is clean and bracing. (KN)

As soon as you taste Tesoro's platinum, you'll understand why it's the only tequila to have been awarded "Best White Spirit" in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Tesoro also won "Distiller of the Year" award - having learned how much care and precision goes into crafting their tequilas, I get it. Tesoro hand-ferments and distills with agave pulp and fibers, which allows for maximum flavor retention from the agave's essential oils. It is then bottled 48 hours after distillation to further preserve flavors and aroma. The Platinum boasts a gorgeous full and creamy texture with an especially floral and fruity bouquet. Hints of pepper lend intrigue and freshness. This is an incredibly "feminine" and complex tequila - like a Botticelli painting in a bottle. An exaggeration, you say? Taste it. You'll join the cult.

Notes

El Tesoro de Don Felipe Tequila began in 1937 when the brand's namesake founded the traditional distillery in Los Altos (the highlands) of Jalisco, Mexico. The methods implemented by Don Felipe de Jesús Camarena continue today: including traditional hornos (ovens) and tahona wheels, alembic stills, and underground aging facilities. The distillery, known as La Alteña, continues its 60-year-long operation in the most old-fashioned way possible. As a result of all this care, the tequilas in El Tesoro's portfolio are some of the purest examples of what tequila should taste like, representative of the sweeter style of tequilas produced in Los Altos. If you are looking for real agave flavor, this will be a tequila to try.
