This is more restrained still, indeed only aggressive swirling coaxes the otherwise fresh and ripe extract of red berry fruit and spice elements to reveal themselves. This is also strikingly silky with sophisticated and refined tannins supporting the medium weight flavors that exude a fine minerality on the linear, precise and beautifully persistent finish. This is a first-rate villages and worth considering, plus it's very Vosne in character. *Outstanding*

For having just been bottled in September, the 2011 Clos du Château was really showing beautifully in mid-November, with great style and grace in evidence on both the nose and palate. The bouquet is a very classy blend of plums, raspberries, coffee, underbrush, lovely soil tones and cedar. On the palate the wine is fullish, suave and very seductive, with a sappy core of fruit, sound acids and excellent length and grip on the modestly tannic finish. Like these first few wines in the Liger-Belair lineup, the 2011 Clos du Château will drink very well from the outset, but a few years in the cellar to allow its secondary layers to emerge strikes me as the proper course for this wine. 90+

Louis-Michel’s monopole in the middle of the village, the 2011 Vosne-Romanee Clos du Chateau has a solid, confident bouquet with bright red and black berries that, compared to the Colombiere, are only too pleased to strut their stuff! The palate is fresh, crisp and taut on the entry and it builds gently toward a pure, caressing finish. This year, the Clos du Chateau represents a leap up from the other Vosne Village Crus. (NM)

Light smoky, toasty note. Sweet strawberry delicacy – especially after tasting the powerful Aristos Chilean Cabernets (Liger-Belair is a partner in Aristos). Gentle, fragrant. Silky and fresh. (JH)
