The excellent King Car Distillery in Taiwan's Northern Yilan County is quickly becoming one of the most successful around the world in terms of awards. Without a doubt the whiskies are fabulous, but it's the Kavalan Ex-Bourbon Oak is lowest mark in the line up that's really starting to get serious. Yes their standard King Car Single Malt is lovely, but for a mere $20 more you can get transported to a new level only a tick down in quality from the exceptional Solist offerings. Expect wonderful classic single malt flavors, big vanilla notes, powerful tropical fruit, deep underlying barrel spice. The bombastic and ultra opulent nature is what really sets Kavalan apart from it's more restrain counterparts in Scotland or Japan and the Ex-Bourbon is where that quality really begins to come out. Excellent stuff.
