2012 Crystallum "Paradisum" Rhône Blend Paardeberg Swartland
Notes
Crystallum is a boutique winery owned by Andrew and Peter-Allan Finlayson, sons of South African wine legend Peter Finlayson. Paradisum is a Rhone style blend made from Shiraz (50%), Grenache (38%), and Cinsault (12%). The grapes are grown in three different vineyard blocks in the Paardeberg from old, non-irrigated bush vines. The nose is explosive and seductive all at once. Red fruits but intertwined with cinnamon, clove, and exotic spices. The palate is very much old-school Rhone, medium-bodied, elegant and more savoury than the bouquet might suggest. Complex and balanced with bright acidity, the wine begs for food and yet is deep and interesting enough to be enjoyed alone. An elegant wine, beautifully packaged with a hand waxed capsule. This wine is a tiny production; K&L has managed to secure an exclusive import of this wine, and quantities are very limited.
