2012 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape
97
Decanter
Review Date: 10/2020At eight years after vintage, this is showing soft and approachable, with a lovely sense of freshness. It's still a little closed for now, so I would wait until at least 2022 before opening, but there is a bright, buzzing effect on the palate and great length, with orange peel on the tail. Tannins are a little more serious and squared off than some vintages. (MW)

Notes
John Livingstone-Learmonth for Cradle of the Rhône: "the red robe is quite full. The bouquet is just emerging, on black fruits, prune, nice clarity and an upright, fresh shape, light pockets of garrigue, the licorice of the Mourvèdre. The palate is close-knit, just entering its second phase, red cherry fruit, the mid-palate notably good. It lengthens well, releases juice towards the finish, tasty juice. This is slinky, appealing, the fruit bright, elegant and stylishly persistent. The fruit is indeed delightful, a winner." (10/2019)
