2012 Domaine Ponsot Clos Vougeot "Vieilles Vignes" Grand Cru

There is fine layering to the ripe aromas of spiced plum, cassis, warm earth and hint of exotic tea where there is only a hint of secondary character in evidence. I very much like the sense of vitality and masculine punch of the lush, even opulent, middle weight plus flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract before concluding in a dusty and palate coating finish that delivers excellent persistence along with a hint of warmth. This is coming along nicely at 12 years of age though in magnum format, it should continue to improve over most of the next decade.
