Burghound
Reviewed July 2016In much the same fashion as the '05 Bonnes Mares (see herein) this is remarkably forward and developed for both the vintage and in particular for the large format bottling as the complex and elegant red berry and earth-infused nose already displays some secondary development. There is both good richness and punch to the delicious, round and seductively textured medium weight flavors that deliver fine if not genuinely distinguished persistence. Note that while this should continue to reward a few more years of cellar time it would not be a serious error to open this now.

Good full red. Plum, mocha and spicy oak on the nose; a bit stunted today and not yet showing the perfume of the Morey premier crus. Then quite full in the mouth, and far more expressive today than the nose: juicy flavors of plum, redcurrant, spices and dried rose are nicely delineated and firm. Finishes with broad tannins and excellent length. (ST) 91+

Representative blend. A little more gamey and black toffee than Clos de la Roche but still has a lovely summer warmth to the fruit. Powerful spiced black fruit on the palate. Very juicy yet serious. Savoury fine tannins. 18-/20 points (JH)
