2011 Turley "Vineyard 101" Alexander Valley Zinfandel
93
Vinous
Review Date: 11/2013Turley's 2011 Zinfandel Vineyard 101 is one of the more floral, high-toned wines in this range. Crushed flowers, tobacco, dried herbs and anise all waft from the glass. Orange peel, spices and white pepper add complexity and nuance as the wine opens up in the glass. This warm, early-ripening parcel, which also contains some Carignane, yields a Zinfandel endowed with striking perfume and nuance. (AG)

Notes
Turley Wine Cellars makes 34 wines, the majority of which are single-vineyard-designate Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs (their preferred spelling). By focusing on old-vine vineyards in particular, Turley aims to both create and preserve California’s unique winemaking culture. All of the vineyards are either certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers or somewhere in the process, and they use all-natural yeasts in the fermentations.
