Int'l Wine Review
Review Date: 09/2022The 2009 Château Latour is a simply magical wine and a serious contender for Top Wine from this spectacular vintage. It is showing beautifully at this stage, as it instantly begins to impress with its seductive aromas of fresh ripe blackberries and dark currants that are woven together with exotic spices, tobacco, graphite, gravelly soil and espresso nuances which all take shape in the glass. On the palate this is just as stunning, as it displays a gorgeous full body that is impeccably polished, with remarkable overall structure and balance. It continues impress as it displays remarkable focus and precision all they way through long, velvety finish. Pure and sophisticated, this wine has it all and although it is showing beautiful now, it should continue to evolve and cruise in the cellar for at least another two decades. The 2009 is without question an all-time great vintage from the iconic Chateau. (JD)

Notes
100 points Robert Parker for Wine Advocate: "A blend of 91.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8.7% Merlot with just under 14% natural alcohol, the 2009 Latour is basically a clone of the super 2003, only more structured and potentially more massive and long lived. An elixir of momentous proportions, it boasts a dense purple color as well as an extraordinarily flamboyant bouquet of black fruits, graphite, crushed rocks, subtle oak and a notion of wet steel. It hits the palate with a thundering concoction of thick, juicy blue and black fruits, lead pencil shavings and a chalky minerality. Full-bodied, but very fresh with a finish that lasts over a minute, this is one of the most remarkable young wines I have ever tasted. Will it last one-hundred years? No doubt about it. Can it be drunk in a decade? For sure." (12/2011)
