Review Date: 04/2013This is a complex wine that's dry at the heart and powered with dark tannins. Slowly the juicy fruit shows through on the mid palate, yielding a wine that offers the potential of solid fruits and excellent acidity.

Fleshy and compact, offering dark plum and black currant paste flavors lined with briar, ganache and roasted tobacco leaf. Shows solid grip and depth.

A balanced and nicely structured wine with fine tannins and a pretty finish. Nicely done for the vintage.

Another sleeper of the vintage, the dense ruby/purple-hued 2012 reveals sweet cranberry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of spring flowers, earth and subtle wood. Supple, fruity, medium-bodied and well-made, this beauty can be drunk over the next decade.

Email DavidThere's nothing like shopping in an off vintage to really illustrate how meaningless terms like "good year" or "bad year" really are. 2012 isn't a "good year" for Bordeaux, but you wouldn't know it after drinking a glass of the 2012 Poujeaux. The fruit is soft and open on the initial sip, but slowly fades into mineral notes and more earthiness. This is a wine that will definitely reward a few years in the cellar, but with decanting can be enjoyed now with a steak (or two).
Notes
A serious, dark wine made of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and Cab Franc, with good, rich middle fruit and length. I have many vintages in my collection, and for me Poujeaux, along with Cantemerle, are the greatest values from the Left Bank of the Gironde estuary.-Ralph Sands
