2009 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru

The 2009 Clos des Lambrays is a brilliant example of the vintage and is destined to be one of the reference point grand crus of the vintage. The nose is deep, pure and beautifully complex, as it offers up 'cool' and reserved blend of cassis, dark berries, coffee bean, a great base of soil, incipient notes of sous bois and black truffles, a discreet framing of new wood and a nice topnote of mustard seed. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and again, beautifully reserved on the attack, with a fine core of fruit, ripe tannins, tangy acids and superb length and grip. Give this beautiful wine eight to ten years in the cellar and then stand back and watch the fireworks from the glass! A brilliant Clos des Lambrays. (JG) 94+

The bright mid red colour is starting to show a few orange notes. There are some iron-rich blood orange notes alongside the roses in the bouquet. The wine is sweetly succulent on the palate, raspberries and roses, then a slight firmness of youth behind. The fruit returns immaculately.
