As great as the 2007 Bienvenues is chez Leflaive, the Bâtard-Montrachet is a small step up in quality. This is a brilliant, brilliant wine, that explodes from the glass in a fabulous mélange of apple, pears, bee pollen, stunning minerality, a delicate touch of honey, candied white flowers and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and multi-faceted, with brilliant fruit complexity, a huge blade of minerality running down the spine, tensile acidity, laser-like focus and stunning length and grip on the dancing finish. A great, great bottle of Bâtard. (Drink between 2017-2050) 96+

This is also on the ripe side for a 2007 with an ultra elegant nose that is pure, airy and cool, indeed this is unusually elegant for the appellation with its white flower, citrus, pear, menthol, white pepper and light spice hints that are in perfect keeping with the rich, full and broad-shouldered flavors that possess the usual volume and power of a classic Bâtard but do not lose any of the precision or detail on the expansive, mouth coating and hugely long and very dry finish. Like a number of examples in 2007, this is an elegant yet forceful Bâtard. (Drink starting 2019)

Bâtard's power expressed without any excess weight: This wine is delicate and detailed rather than monolithic. Most of the detail appears at the end, with a subtle length that expands and extends for minutes, touching on wildflower honey, rich pineapple and peach. The initial aromas should develop with age, as the wine opens over the next ten years in bottle.

Broad and nutty, with moderately firm structure and a hint of oak tannins shoring up its grapefruit, ripe apple and spice flavors. Intense, yet slightly angular at first and requiring air to show its creamy texture and richness. Fine length. Best from 2012 through 2026. 107 cases imported.
