Reviewed August 2013One of the top Grenache releases from this cool vintage, the 2011 Grenache Lumiere Larner Vineyard was 100% destemmed and aged in 50% new French oak. From tiny yields, it offers fantastic Grenache flair with perfumed aromas of flowers, underbrush, incense and ripe cherries all emerging from the glass. A gorgeous effort that builds incrementally on the palate, with a seamless texture and no weight, it will benefit from 1-3 years of bottle age and have upwards of a decade of longevity. (JD)

Vinous
Brilliant ruby. Exotic, pungent scents of blackberry, cherry-cola and incense, with a smoky topnote. Offers musky dark fruit compote flavors and velvety texture, with complicating notes of vanilla, cinnamon and candied rose. This powerful, palate-coating wine could stand up to the richest red meat dishes but it shows no undue weight. Finishes with excellent clarity, supple tannins and lingering spiciness. (JR)
