Review Date: 05/2011*Sweet spot Outstanding* Moderate reduction dominates the nose to the point where the fruit is masked. There is good freshness and energy though to the strongly mineral-inflected and beautifully well-detailed medium-weight plus flavors that are presently austere and quite right on the otherwise impressively long finish. This old school and very serious effort is quite firm though stops short of overt rusticity. Drink: 2024+

Notes
93-95 points Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "The Rugiens has a taut bouquet with red cherries, redcurrant, crushed stone and just a touch of black truffle: complex, but taking time to unwind in the glass. The palate is very well balanced on the entry, tart cherries at first that segue into crisp cranberry and raspberry fruit. Very good structure, firm but insistent grip with a long, satisfying finish. Excellent. Tasted January 2011."
