Reviewed April 2013An extremely pretty nose exhibits a well-layered aromatic profile of liqueur of red berry fruit, earth and soft spice scents that is trimmed in just enough wood toast to notice. There is a seductive consistency to the solidly well-concentrated medium-bodied flavors that ooze a fine dry extract that helps to buffer the moderately firm shaping tannins on the attractively long finish. Like the Clos St. Denis, this is quite refined.

I had not routinely paid enough attention to the Jadot Charmes-Chambertin, but the 2011 is a very, very fine follow-up to the excellent 2010 version here. As I observed last year, this is a purchased wine, but it is superb, offering up a complex nose of red and black cherries, a touch of strawberry, meaty tones, a fine base of soil, coffee, mustard seed and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very suave on the attack, with a good core (though not quite the same concentration as the Clos St. Jacques), fine focus and a very long, classy and ripely tannic finish. This is very good juice indeed.

Bright full red. Spicy redcurrant, tobacco and earth on the nose. Plump and sweet in the middle, but with good chalky lift to the cherry and spice flavors. A touch dry on the finish, suggesting energetic extraction. This was is made from purchased wine.(ST)
