The least expensive white is the 2012 Chardonnay Overlook, a cross-California blend of fruit with 83% from Sonoma, 11% from Monterey and 6% from Santa Barbara. A consistently delicious effort, the 2012 maintains beautiful tropical fruit and honeysuckle notes as well as a pure, front end-loaded, fruit-driven style. With good acidity, beautiful cleanliness and little oak, this exuberant, classic California Chardonnay can be drunk over the next several years. It is an amazing value!

This wine’s 'California' appellation masks the fact that it’s actually sourced from serious sites like Bien Nacido in the Santa Maria Valley and Lone Oak in the Russian River. The fruit is fermented in French oak barrels without inoculation, the wine offering all the cushioning and roundness expected from California, yet with impressive balance and freshness. It lasts on notes of pear and hazelnut, welcoming and appetizing through and through.

Bright yellow-gold. Ripe orchard and pit fruit aromas are complemented by honey, toasty lees and ginger. Supple and open-knit, showing good depth to its nectarine and poached pear flavors. A bit loose-knit on the finish, leaving notes of vanilla and yellow apple behind.

With fruit hailing mostly from Sonoma (83%), this Overlook also sources from Monterey (11%) and Santa Barbara counties (6%) to craft a barrel-influenced wine that’s intense in caramel, lemon and vanilla sugar, rich yet balanced.

Notes

You see Landmark, and you think Chardonnay: Here it is, the 2012 Overlook Chardonnay, which has made the Wine Spectator's Top 100 list seven times since 1997. A blend of mostly Sonoma County fruit, with some grapes from the Central Coast and Santa Barbara. Elegant, high-toned, and lively.
