This firmly tannic wine boasts solid structure and density. It has powerful concentration, due to very low yields. The fruit is ripe, driven by notes of black plum and berry. This is a wine with a long-term future. (RV)

Currants and blackberries, with licorice and flowers. Full and firm, with silky tannins and a pretty finish.

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The Chateau de Pez 2010 has a lifted blackberry and boysenberry scented bouquet with undergrowth and tobacco scents developing. The palate is medium-bodied with firm and quite austere tannins. It is loaded plenty of ripe black fruit and decent structure on the finish. There is nothing excessive here - just well crafted Left Bank Bordeaux that should age well over the next decade. Tasted January 2014. (NM-Wine Journal)

This has a crunchy feel, with brambly acidity and an energetic core of damson plum, red currant, lilac and chalk. Stays refreshing through the finish, showing a pleasant austerity and fine length. Drink now through 2022. (JM)

Notes
Not to be confused with Les Ormes de Pez, the Château De Pez is actually the oldest domaine in St-Estèphe. The Pontac family, who also created Haut-Brion, gave the domaine its vineyards back in the fifteenth century. The estate now has 59 acres under vine, dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
