2009 Drautz Able Lemberger Württemburg
Notes
Weingut Drautz was founded in 1496 on the outskirts of Heilbronn, in Württemberg. Today, its vineyards span almost 17 hectares of vines in Heilbronn, Coventry, and Lauffen, planted to a variety of German red and white wine varieties, including: Trollinger, Lemberger, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Samtrot, Merlot, Dornfelder, Regent, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Kerner, Müller-Thurgau, Sylvaner and Gewurztraminer. Also known as Blaufrankisch, Lemberger is red grape variety known for yeilding wines with a deep color and can range from light and fruity to tannic and extracted, usually accompanied by high acidity and excellent aging potential. You will find Lemberger almost exclusively cultivated here in Württemburg. Drautz Able's is an intense, fairly rustic style, with tangy berry aromas and flavors mixing with earthy notes and spicy oak. It is ripe and full in the mouth, with firm tannins, rich fruit flavors, and fine length on the palate. This begs for food. Traditional pairings include pâtés, roasted meat and game, and strong cheeses.
