The wonderful single estate cognacs from Paul Giraud have been present in the market for many years. At one point the Napoleon was one of K&L's go to expressions and a regular on the shelves of all our stores. But, over the years price pressure has made these exceptional cognacs more difficult to sell and until recently had not been featured in our selection. Now, we're able to sell their flagship "Tres Rare" for 2012 prices! It's a no brainer. It won't last forever as we've completely exhausted the stocks at this time, but it does represent one of the best values for old cognac this year. The style is full of freshness despite the age, yet balances with deep baking spice and voluptuous rancio offering old leather, dried apricot and antique wood. The palate is medium bodied and drier than any large house cognac as it's not sweetened or colored in any way. Some aficionados might be surprised that this old cognac is not coffee dark, but the complexity of old brandy is so evident that its quality will be apparent despite the lack or heavy caramel additions to obfuscate its true nature. A wonderful bottle at a spectacular price.
