Burghound

A gorgeously spicy and beautifully layered nose that has the most intensely floral character in the range offers up notably ripe aromas of violets, plum and cassis. There is impressive volume to the full-bodied and opulently rich flavors that are blessed with buckets of mouth coating sap that imparts a seductive mouth feel and pushes the very firm tannic spine to the background on the hugely long and suave finish. This is not an especially big or powerful Musigny relative to say the 2005 or 2009 versions but there is both harmony and grace to the delivery. A complete effort that is also breathtakingly good, in fact it's so good that it's a true 'wow' wine.

Intense and richly textured, this offers enticing aromas of sandalwood, cedar, sweet cherry and black currant buttressed by refined and beautifully integrated tannins. Shows fine length and an aftertaste of sandalwood, licorice and salt. Best from 2018 through 2040

The 2010 Musigny is at times delicate, understated, exotic and flashy. In reality, all of those elements are present at the same time. The Musigny possesses the most regal, polished of fruit supported by sweet, silky tannins that are dazzling. The operative word here is finesse, and the 2010 has it in spades. Sweet, candied notes linger in the empty glass. This is a great showing from Christophe Roumier. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2050. The only real problem with Christophe Roumier’s 2010s is the production, which was severely compromised by the December 2009 frost and the poor weather of 2010, especially during the flowering. On a more positive note, the wines are marked by their total transparency. Some of the entry-level wines are a bit on the light side, but the best 1er Crus and the Grand Crus are magical. Roumier started picking on September 28. Some of the wines were lightly chaptalized. I will report on the 2009s in our April issue.
