Review Date: 08/2010A fine and spicy wine, the wood toast well integrated with the sweet fruit. Deliciously ripe Merlot vies with the Cabernet tannins to give a dark, complex wine. (RV)

This is very ripe with toffee, spice, truffles, and chocolate, as well as ripe-fruit and meat character on the nose and palate. Full body, soft tannins and a flavorful finish.

On the toasty, more modern side of the spectrum, with ambitious roasted fig, apple wood and blueberry confiture notes followed by racy graphite, espresso and blackberry pâte de fruit. Not shy, but has the density for balance. *Smart Buys* (JM)

Starting to show some maturity, the 2009 Château Lilian Ladouys has wonderful darker currant fruits interwoven with plenty of sappy herbs, flowers, chocolate, and earth. With still a kiss of spicy oak, it's medium to full-bodied and has a rounded, opulent texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Enjoy this satisfying, balanced Saint-Estèphe over the coming decade or so.

One of the darlings of 2009 Bordeaux values, this is one that I've enjoyed many times, but haven't tasted in the past few years. The bountiful aromatics are highlighted by deep cassis, blackberry, graphite, and thyme. The palate is pure and expressive, with a core of red cherry, a terrific texture, and well judged tannins. Drinking well now, something tells me that this is still a few years from its peak, where it will stay for a few years to follow. A lot of wine for the price, and still one of 2009 Bordeaux's great values.
