Commanding beauty is rarely as subtle as this Chevalier-Montrachet, the curves of its flavor bringing the kind of emotional reaction that few wines have the power to achieve. The details of the flavor roll around in the mouth for minutes, bringing memories of moments in time - a summer sun shower, a long chord at the end of a piano concerto, Margot Fonteyn in La Bayadère. Over the top? Perhaps, but those are the bits and pieces of my notes that bring the wine back more clearly for me than the rest. It's hard to imagine a more perfect outcome for chardonnay planted on the austere limestone soils of the Montrachet hill - though this was not a perfect vintage. Perhaps its weaknesses may show with time. If so, that would be a long time, as four days of air only improve on its freshness and layered complexity. There is no better example of the brilliant farming at Domaine Leflaive. Not to be missed.

Burghound

Review Date: 05/2019
Even after 5 years the nose remains restrained but exceptionally elegant and pure with aromas of white flower, green apple, pear and wet stone. There is plenty of minerality to the rich, full and highly energetic flavors that tighten up considerably on the detailed, minerally and moderately dry finish that displays distinct citrus and mineral nuances. This is still quite tight and linear with huge amounts of dry extract that renders the very firm acid spine almost invisible at present though the long finish is clearly shaped by it. This magnificent Chevalier is now knocking on the door of its full maturity though I stress that there is no rush to drink up as this should hold well for years.

A ripe, toasty wine, very buttery. It has rich, almost sweet yellow fruit balanced with a wonderful mineral texture. The wine, of course, is still very young, but shows its future as being rounded and opulent. The acidity that holds it all together shows in the finish. *Cellar Selection* (RV)

Aromas of lemon and butterscotch lead off, followed by lime, buttered pastry and mineral flavors. Tightly wound and muscular, with fine intensity and a long, mouthwatering finish. Stays vibrant, echoing notes of butterscotch and stone on the aftertaste. *Collectible* (BS)
