1982 Salon "Le Mesnil" Blanc de Blancs Champagne

This was the oldest wine of the tasting, and paradoxically among the freshest. It showed bright, youthful aromas of fresh apricot, flowers, beeswax, and nougat. The texture was rich and dense, but the wine was still in perfect balance. One expects perhaps more evolution from a warm year, but this still has a decade or more of improvement in the cellar, despite having been disgorged more than 25 years ago. A tremendous wine; not as incisive as the ’96 but almost equally appealing in a different way. Disgorgement date uncertain: between 1992 and 1994. Dosage not specified. (CC)
